German Chocolate Cake Ice Cream

german chocolate

Today is my dad’s birthday. I usually make the people in my family something special for their birthday and have been trying harder to make them things that they will REALLY like instead of just things I want to try. My dad likes only one kind of cake but likes about every kind of ice cream out there so I thought I would try and make him a flavor of ice cream I know he hasn’t had before. I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull it off but I just put all the ingredients in there that go in the cake. It turned out really good and was very easy to make. A lot easier than making the German chocolate cake!

Ingredients:

2 cups heavy cream

2 cups whole milk

1 cup sugar

1 cup cocoa powder

1 bar German chocolate (available in baking aisle)

1/2 cup coconut

1 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Stir all ingredients and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Pour into ice cream maker and chill according to instructions provided by the manufacturer of your ice cream maker.

Hmmm…. Yeah, now you got me second guessing how much cocoa I put in. Was it a half cup or a full cup?? I really should have written it down. Sorry. Yeah, some people might want to try just a half cup! ;)

This sounds amazing and I love the cake. I am gonna make tomorrow but have a question about the choc bar. What do you do with it? Chop and melt with hot water or just chop and add to ice cream mixture? Please tell me. Thanks!!

Looking at the the picture now, I think I finely chopped it. Grating it might also be an option.
