Andrew and I have been making our own holiday cards over the course of the past few days. We like to make our own cards every year for a personal touch- everyone gets a card made just for them! It’s just something a little special since we can’t afford to buy everyone presents. Making the cards isn’t as expensive as one would think either. I purchased all the materials to make these cards at a local scrapbook store for about $13.00 and that includes the envelopes (but not the stamps!). I ended up making about 15 cards but I think we need a few more as I find scraps of paper with peoples’ address scrawled on them. Also you always get that card in the mail from somebody you weren’t expecting and think- Ah! I better send them a card back!
I went with a vintage theme. I’ve been in that kind of mood this year. I think they turned out pretty good. We are lucky to have a scrapbook store here in town that has an open studio where you can go in and use all their tools for free- the fancy punchers and paper cutting tools. It’s really a great place for Andrew and I to go and craft for an afternoon. I don’t do scrapbooking since I have this blog but I do like to make all our cards. Here are a few of the ones we made:
There is some rippling I noticed on some of the cut-outs. I’m sure there is better glue I could be using instead of my plain ol’ Elmers. Next time I will invest in better glue. We also included family pictures that we made ourselves:
I don’t remember being this excited about the holidays since I was a kid. I guess it’s because now I have kids to enjoy it all with!
