The Garden Itch!

Meet Hab. Hab is a 5 year-old Habanero plant. We winter him over indoors every year and each year I say, “I don’t think Hab is gonna make it this year, he looks pretty bad.” And then this happens. Green leaves start to appear at the base. It really is amazing! I wish we had room to winter over all our tropical vegetable perennials but we really only have room for one and this one is special. It is one of the first plants my husband and I bought when we first started gardening.

It got up to almost 80 degrees today in the mini greenhouse. Some of the plants got pretty parched.

As you can see, there is still snow on the ground. But it’s downright Floridian in the greenhouse! I needed a bigger one for myself.

Here come the strawberries:

These guys are lonely and waiting on their perennial flower friends:

Every year I have to take garden “before and after” shots. So here is the before:

I’m not getting too excited though. There’s a picture on my old blog taken two years ago on April 29th (well over a month from now) with 2 inches of snow on the ground. You never know what’s going to happen around here.

Let me know if you need any seeds- I have tons! Do you have room to do corn? I have a ton of sweet corn seeds but we don’t have much room for sweet corn here.

Oh I’m sure we can find something for you to do! Also, sounds like Vivid Image is going to open up their back space to employees for gardening. You could help me up there too! We are going to try and donate a lot of what we grow up there to the food shelf.
